Frequently asked questions about Chery
Who audits the suppliers, where do the batteries come from and how is data in the car protected? Here we answer the questions we are most often asked about Chery and about cars from China.
How are working conditions in the supply chain audited?
All of Chery's direct suppliers have signed a code of conduct based on the ILO conventions that prohibits forced labour and child labour. Audits follow the OECD Guidelines and the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights in three stages: self-assessment, remote or on-site checks by Chery's own assessors and, where needed, review by an external party. In 2025, 690 suppliers were audited, and the partnership with three suppliers was terminated following serious shortcomings. Minerals such as tin, tantalum, tungsten and gold are traced using the industry-standard CMRT.
Where do the batteries come from and how are they recycled?
The battery cells come from established suppliers that are audited for responsible sourcing of raw materials such as lithium, cobalt and graphite. Chery Europe is preparing for the EU Battery Regulation, including the digital battery passport, and works with approved producer responsibility organisations to collect and recycle car batteries in the EU. How do you handle data security in connected cars?
Personal data from customers in Europe is handled in accordance with the GDPR. Chery's vehicle platforms are certified under UN Regulations R155 for cyber security and R156 for software updates, and Chery is certified to ISO 27001 for information security and ISO/IEC 27701 for privacy. All communication between car and server is encrypted. [Where data from Swedish customers is stored.]
What is the climate footprint of a Lepas or iCaur compared with other cars?
Chery Europe has life cycle assessments for all models sold in Europe, in accordance with the EU PEF method and ISO 14067. Chery was also the first to have a life cycle assessment recognised by both China and the EU, reviewed by DEKRA. It covers the JAECOO 7 SHS plug-in hybrid and shows 120.4 g CO₂e per km over 240,000 km, including production, shipping, use and recycling. [Figures for iCAUR, LEPAS and Exlantix.]
How do you handle sanctions and compliance?
Chery's global code of conduct requires compliance with export control and sanctions rules in every country and screening of all business partners against sanctions lists. The same requirements apply to Chery's suppliers. Chery has an anti-corruption policy and whistleblowing channels where reports can be made anonymously and retaliation is prohibited. In Europe, the channels comply with the EU Whistleblowing Directive. [Stonefruit's own policy and whistleblowing channel.]
